Fries and Ice Cream

HELLO EVERYONE, GREETINGS FROM THE WEB

Today we shall talk about how disappointing lunch at Express and interesting flavours at Hippo & Bees.

As you may have noticed, the Express branches at Manggis and Airport have closed so we decided to go for the Qiulap one for lunch.
Come to think of it, I think it's the only remaining Express....
For those who do not know what Express is, worry no more!

Express is a fast food restaurant well known for their huge slightly salty fries and their little chicken pies and maybe their vanilla milkshake but for me it was always their iced lemon tea that made an impact.
Hugely famous for quite a while, opening in other districts as well.
However, after who knows what happened, their service and food quality have decreased.
I remember buying the pie for a dollar but now it's thirty cents more.
True, this maybe due to the inflation of economy but I also remember their prices went incredibly high for food that is not well maintained.
Anyway, we still continued to patron Express because amazing ammiright.
They slowly lost their game again after Jollibee opened next to them at the Airport.
Who knows what happened again and then next thing you know, new eateries are taking over their once established grounds.

The menu and environment wasn't very appealing and I paid $1.80 for a bottle of Suci water.... which was a bit too expensive for me knowing how much they actually cost.
There wasn't any chicken pies and iced lemon tea, so kinda sad about that.
Service speed was commendable but after paying I lowered my expectations for this place.

Their Spaghetti looked appealing (at least it did on the menu) so I had that.
Very disappointed with the turn out but I guess it should be expected with its price.

A bit excited when the lady said they had curly fries since everything else we asked for
was unavailable. Unfortunately, we found out that the curly fries
came straight out of a sack. So no worthy taste comments there.

The once well admired large fries lacked quantity and taste.
Was not worth the price I feel.

While we were eating, I recalled looking at several snaps on the new ice cream place with the honeycomb so  you can imagine how happy I was to read online that Hippo & Bees was just about a 3 minute drive from Express to Seri Qlap Plaza. It also worked that today was super hot and ice cream would be the best idea I had.

Took a while to figure out where the 'Food Arena' was located so we went to the cinema floor because I thought it was at the food court place.
Talking about that, how empty is the food court!
Apparently it's on ground floor along with Lof Bakery, Twinkle Pan (waffles&pretzels), Waroeng Penyet, and Baristas by Modesto.
You can find Hippo & Bees if you used the main entrance where Giant used to be.
Right in front of the door.

They had some pretty interesting flavours there and what's nice is that everything from the brownies to macarons are made there.
Their ice cream is soft served and believe them when they say soft!
I wish I took a picture of their menu just now. Kinda forgot.
HONEYCOMBS:
I'm not sure if it's safe to eat the wax but just suck on it, and throw the wax out after.
I felt that it was a bit too sweet for me but a great combination when eater with the Dark Knight flavour which is essentially Bario Salt.
I would recommend buying the Dark Knight with an additional topping of the honeycomb.

Honeycomb with Honey

Dark Knight
It looks so deceptive like you'd think it's sweet because of the chocolate
but the salty taste kicks in after that and BAM!
Wouldn't recommend this for those who does not like salty taste in their
sweets.

Marshamallow. I'm not sure if they make the marshmallows
but it'd be pretty great if they did.

Price range is around $3.50 to $4 and additional toppings cost an extra dollar or two.
Mmmm I suppose the price is pretty decent considering what we buy now are always more than $5 and these are also some quality honey we're tasting over here.
However, I do feel that some of the flavours such as the Marshmallow and Popcorn (they make this one) are a bit off the price range because you can count the pieces they stick on your ice cream.
If you're into spending the same amount of money but for more quantity, I would definitely go for Mochi as you can see the amount you're spending in your cup.
If you're not into froyo, then DQ would be very fulfilling.
If you want something cheaper but also still very good, big recommendation goes out to the kadai runcit ice cream.

Till the next soft served,

xom.
