Bokwa

Hello everyone and hello December!
(back to WRHI2013 next post)

Just thought I'd update on this one before moving on and because I promised KE I'd do one on               What To's For First Timers.

I've never even done any workouts in public, let alone step foot on a studio but as fate may have it, today proved to be the day I did a public workout in a studio.
So the workout we did was Bokwa and as Izzul described it, it's 'like Zumba, but not Zumba' hmmm.

Unlike Zumba, Bokwa is a workout using choreography using the formation of letters and numbers.
It may sound easy because that's what I thought but I realised the 1hr+ session was the most exercise I've had ever since term break started.
Our instructor was Martine and she's really nice. And fit. So so so fit.
I mean, it was as if she didn't even break a sweat!
And the whole time she was like 'don't tell me you're tired yet!'
We're just like psssh of course not. But in reality.... very kepisan.

Ok, so here goes!

What To's For First Timers
{What to Wear}
  1. Wear light and loose clothings. This is to ease air flow to cool you down obviously.
  2. Wearing dri-fit is a good option because sweat isn't visible (score), it keeps you cool when your temperature is increasing and it's light.
  3. Sleeveless are good too because you get more air around your skin (refer to Izzul in the picture)
  4. As for pants, you can wear anything that makes you feel very very comfortable. So that can be compression tights or short pants or three quarters or feel free to resort to your PE pants. The main idea is to have you comfortable in your skin. If you feel wearing long pants increases your sweat and make you more uncomfortable, then don't.
  5. Shoes. (Yes you wear shoes) Wear the ones you feel really good in and not because the colour is striking or you just got it. I saw a lady wear Skechers and can you imagine how comfortable they look?
  6. Best to wear socks so you don't feel the sweat and moisture on your feet. This is a workout session, not a casual sneakers outing.
  7. If you're fabulous and stagnant, don't tie your hair. I think it's only natural to tie up your hair while working out don't you think? Pony tails, buns, anything to keep hair out of your face. You're also cooling down your face like this. And you can easily control your sweat.

{What to Bring}
  1. Cash. Unless you're a member of the studio, sessions are paid in cash. Our walk-in Bokwa was $6 (worth every penny)
  2. Water. I don't need to point out how tiring it is and you need to hydrate yourself. If you choose to leave water, it's okay because most studios or gyms sell their own. Which brings us back to (1)
  3. A dry shirt. This is optional. Some people have certain skin conditions where they have to change after they sweat or else it'll get worse so to not make it worse, bring a fresh dry shirt. Or their shirts are really wet and they have somewhere to go after that.
  4. Towel. Again, this is optional. If you're the kind who really really sweats a lot even after 10 minutes, bring a towel.
  5. Your phone. Because duhhhhh post-workout group picture????

(We're all wearing dri-fit. Except for Zul because she's extra fab)

That's all I can give after today's session. I didn't bring a towel or a shirt because I didn't think I'd need it and I was right! Just remember to cool down after that and you'll be fine. But remember to bring cash. Always bring cash.
Our Bokwa session is located at House of Fitness @ Dojo Studio Serusop. It's on the third floor, above SCR, opposite Mums Bakery.

I hope this post will be a future reference to the future first timers because we sure worried about a lot of things the night before!
